Understanding of
NVQ qualification

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are practical work-based awards in England, Wales and Northern Ireland that are achieved through assessment and training. The regulatory framework supporting NVQs was withdrawn in 2015 and replaced by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), although the term “NVQ” may be used in RQF qualifications if they “are based on recognised occupational standards, work-based and/or simulated work-based assessment and where they confer occupational competence”.

As the NVQ are based on a student’s practical skills, it is completed in the workplaces. The NVQ was assessed through building up a portfolio of evidence based on the student’s professional experience. At the end of the NVQ, the student undergoes final practical assessments, during which an NVQ assessor will observe and ask questions. To achieve an NVQ, candidates have to prove that they had the ability (competence) to carry out their job to the required standard. NVQs are based upon meeting National Occupational Standards which described the “competencies” expected in any given job role.

Hairdressing Improvement courses

Individual courses are for those who already have their diploma however do not feel strong or confident enough to start. Unfortunately this is one of most common problems why many people are not working as hairdressers even after they acquired this profession. Lack of practice, brake after studies and lots of other individual problems can be reasons why it is not enough just to have diploma. People need more time to get confidence. We are very motivated to help you by organising individual/group improvement courses in:

NVQS ARE STUDIED FOR IN
A FRAMEWORK OF
FOUR LEVELS

NVQS ARE STUDIED FOR IN A FRAMEWORK OF FOUR LEVELS

Level 1: An introduction to hairdressing
Level 2: Basic and essential skills
Level 3: Technical and supervisory skills.
Level 4: Management skills.

On completion of these NVQ levels, hairdressers and barbers can move on to a Higher National Certificate or Diploma (HNC/HND) qualification or a foundation degree and higher degree level.

NVQs are also ‘first choice’ qualifications for those seeking official recognition on the UK Register for Qualified Hairdressers. In most cases you will need at least a Level 2 qualification to register, while a Level 3 qualification is needed for most State Registered Senior Hairdressers or Barbers.
